The Dwarf/Monkey War:
In the year 1853, the subterranean-dwelling dwarven ignorami joined forces with the little blue monkeys of Neptune to attack Earth. In response to the attack, a handful of brave souls formed the Eternal Order of Enlightened Captaincy (EOEC) to combat the menace. Among the founding members were Captain Brilliant, Captain Clever, and the original Captain Genius. Aiding them in the war was Wordsworth Emmendale Genius, a captain in the British army and no relation to the original Captain Genius (who was mortally wounded in a boating accident in Egypt shortly after the Dwarf/Monkey War, and has been in a state of suspended animation in the EOEC vault ever since).

The Dwarf/Monkey War lasted a long time, but it was a secret war. It is a secret that will die with the EOEC. Fortunately for posterity, the EOEC is not likely to die, since a dwarven PoW, ignorant of what it was that he possessed, gave the Captains that most glorious of all the natural resources of Neptune, the Elixir of Youth (hence their lack of death). Peace was finally reached with the Dwarfs in 1911, but the monkeys returned to their home planet (except for the one known as Andy) and nursed a grudge against humankind that dies no more than the EOEC. Today, the EOEC corresponds regularly with the dwarven intelligentsia, such as they are, and remains eternally vigilant against the inevitable day when the blue monkeys of Neptune will return to take up the invasion of Earth where they left off so many years ago.

Undying Order of Nefarious Doctors (UOND):
The arch-nemesises of the EOEC. They desire the Elixir of Youth. The Chief Doctors have palindrome names, like Bob and Gadudag. Their secret password ("Og! I'm a radar, amigo!") dates back to the time of their alliance with the dwarfs and monkeys (an alliance that ended when the monkeys refused to hand over the Elixir of Youth), and also hints at their Mexican ties.
Great Pedro Brilliante Scandal:
Captain Brilliant hasn't remembered his name since 1962, when he started going by the name "Pedro." Then Captain Mehro orchestrated a plot in which a fellow Mexican named Pedro Brilliante assumed Captain Brilliant's identity. The result became known as The Great Pedro Brilliante Scandal. Whilst trying to come to the real Captain Brilliant's aid, Captain Genius (who had been investigating things in Mexico) was heading urgently north to Santa Fe, but agents of the UOND spiked his drink and he ended up a prisoner in a nondescript New Mexico town. Eventually, he was rescued and retired from active duty, but was recalled for the Rocket Boots mission.
Genius, Captain:
See Genius, Henry Charing; Genius, Wordsworth Emmendale.
Genius, Wordsworth Emmendale:
A captain in the British army in 1853. He joined the EOEC in 1913, after the incapacitation of the original Captain Genius. In 1962, during the Great Pedro Brilliante Scandal, he was convicted of drunk driving in a small New Mexico town as a result of actions taken by the UOND. Upon his release in 1981, he retired from active duty in the EOEC. Although he remains officially retired, he did participate (with Captain Brilliant) in the creation of the Rocket Boots and the subsequent Rocket Boots mission.
Genius, Henry Charing:
One of the founders of the EOEC. He was mortally wounded in a boating accident in Egypt in 1913 and has been in a state of suspended animation in the EOEC vault ever since. His position in the EOEC was taken up by Captain Wordsworth Emmendale Genius of the British Army (no relation; see Genius, Wordsworth Emmendale); hence, Henry Charing Genius is often referred to as "the original Captain Genius."
Brilliant, Captain:
One of the founders of the EOEC, and Lord of Castle Brill in northern Scotland, ancestral home of the Brilliant clan, of which Captain Brilliant is the sole remaining member. In 1962 Captain Brilliant came to the startling realisation that he could not recall his given name, so, ignoring the advice of everyone he knew who insisted he was Captain Hamish Ewan Brilliant, adopted the name Pedro (which led to the Great Pedro Brilliante Scandal later that same year). Captain Brilliant's favourite colour is green, and his favourite food is haggis and chips. He hopes to one day rid the world of mosquitoes, and own a chain of hair salons.
Mehro, Captain:
Was once a member of the EOEC. He was, however, power hungry, and desired to become the Head of the order, enough so that he made an attempt on the life of Captain Brilliant, who was Head of the order at the time. He was banished to Mexico, where he fell in with disreputable characters, mainly banditos and used car salesmen. His hatred for the EOEC, and particularly Captain Brilliant, grew ever stronger, culminating in the Great Pedro Brilliante Scandal of 1962. He managed to escape justice by fleeing to whichever border Mexicans have to cross to escape justice, and his whereabouts is unknown to this day.
Rocket Boots:
An invention of Captains Brilliant and Genius of the EOEC during their days as Head and Chair of the Department of Rocket Boots Science at Nifty Sounds College.
Rocket Boots of Death:
Captains Brilliant and Genius invented the original Rocket Boots. The UOND stole them and developed them into Rocket Boots of Death. Brilliant and Genius got them back in a secret operation at the Glastonbury popular music festival in 2000, though they were almost thwarted by a misled drug-sniffing dog set up by the UOND. See Rocket Boots.
